Minutes of Council Meeting – 10th March 2010 
 
Present - President Ann Mitchell, SVP John Ferris, Ron McGill, PP Bill Stewart, PP Bob Buchan, PP David Muncey, PP Allan Bertram, Archie Campbell, Gary Horsburgh (minutes).
 
Apologies - JVP Ian Taylor, Robert Main, Alan Suttie, Harry Wallace, Jim Hutt, Dallas Mechan, Iain Gow, David Walker, Rod Scott.
 
Minutes of Previous Meeting
The previous Minutes were approved.
 
Matters Arising
  • Top of the Form event – currently being held in Glenrothes (10 March).
 President’s Report
  • A number of Club members, led by Rod Scott, are currently representing Kirkcaldy at the Dundee Discovery Quiz Night (10 March).
  • Inter Act Clubs – President Ann advised that Viewforth High School wishes to support the charities for education in South Africa which have been highlighted by the proposed Heli2Africa project.  Kirkcaldy High School has raised £1400 through Thanks for Life events.
  • Beveridge Park Festival – Les Soper is leading on the Club’s involvement.  Kirkcaldy Raith and the Inter Act Clubs wish to support this venture.
  • Cheese & Wine – Tickets will be available next week for this event at Kirkcaldy Museum & Art Gallery on 9 April.
  • Council members were saddened to learn that Tanzanian Rotarian Faye Cran had recently been the victim of a violent robbery at her compound.  Faye, who is closely involved in Kirkcaldy’s ongoing projects in Tanzania, had sustained several injuries as a result.
  • Kids Out – The date of this annual event requires to be moved from 9 June because of an in-service training day for teaching staff.  President Ann will endeavour to fix an alternative date.

Administration Committee Report
  • Attendance - No report
  • Programme - Dallas has this in hand
  • Website - The website continues to be refreshed with up to date content.
Foundation Committee Report
David Muncey advised re:
  • Tanzania Project – David has requested that District forward the District Simplified Grant of £800.  Its receipt is awaited.
  • AquaBox – David will check the validity of some of the contents of the AquaBox which has been used for various Club promotional displays.
  • Rotary ‘Thanks for Life’ – A number of leftover purple wristbands will be sold at the Beveridge Park Festival.  The recent events in shopping centres and supermarkets have done much to raise the profile of Rotary.  President Ann has written a letter to the Sainsburys Chairman regarding arrangements for recent Thanks for Life events at the Kirkcaldy store.
Service Project Report
  • International  - No report
  • Vocational - Robin Lockhart has held a meeting to discuss arrangements for the Primary School Quiz at Balwearie High School.  8 Primary Schools are to participate. Kirkcaldy Raith has volunteered to assist.
  • Community - Kids Out – as previously discussed.
  • Youth - Stewart Gilmour will shortly be holding interviews for RYLA candidates.  President Ann and Stewart will oversee the St. Andrews High School Quiz on 24 March.
Membership Report
  • Allan Bertram reported there has still been no update regarding the performance of the recent RIBI Membership Initiative.
  • A nomination for a new Club member has been received.  Council members agreed to put the nomination forward to the Club in the form of a 7 Day Notice.  In the absence of valid objections, Allan will arrange an Information Evening for the applicant.
Public Relations Committee Report
  • Visits - The Leven Club was recently visited.  The next visit is to Dunfermline.
  • Sports - No report.
  • Fellowship - The Cheese & Wine Evening will be held on 9 April.  Tickets will be available in a few days.  
  • Charity Dinner - More detailed information is awaited regarding arrangements for the forthcoming Charity Dinner on 23 April.  
  • Ingolstadt Visit - Various budgetary issues were discussed and agreed concerning the forthcoming visit from Ingolstadt Rotary Club in June.  It is now apparent that the majority of the incoming party wish to stay locally in a hotel, and President Ann has made the necessary booking arrangements with a Kinghorn hotel.

Council members agreed that the Club vote against a repeat membership levy motion to be raised at the 2010 RIBI Conference in Bournemouth.
