Minutes of Council Meeting – 9th December 2009

Minutes of Previous Meeting The previous Minutes were approved.
Matters Arising
Bring A Friend to Rotary Day – this was held on 1st December however the response was disappointing. President Ann hopes to hold another such event some time in the New Year.
Thanks for Life event – a meeting with Kirkcaldy Raith will be held on 10th December to discuss detailed arrangements for the initiative.
President’s Report
Interact Clubs – The 2 Clubs are thriving and have both agreed to undertake various activities.
Viewforth High School – Purple Day, Candy Canes, Tea Party
Kirkcaldy High School – Purple Day
Council members agreed in principle to the provision of a financial advance (approx £250) to facilitate the purchase of purple wrist bands. Profits from the sale of the wrist bands will be directed to Polio Plus. It is expected that the Raith and Burntisland Clubs will provide similar funding arrangements.
Future Activities – a meeting was held on 7 December to discuss various Club events to take place over the forthcoming months.
Microphone Stand – Council members agreed to the purchase (£20) of a microphone stand for use by speakers at Club meetings.
Treasurer’s Report
A written report from Robert Main was noted by members. Discussion ensued on the charges levied recently for the auditing of the Club’s accounts, and David Muncey agreed to look into the technical requirements laid down by Rotary International regarding this annual function.

Foundation Committee Report – David Muncey advised that:
- An element of Alan Suttie’s Tanzania Project will be selected for submission of a District Simplified Grant application.
- All RIBI Christmas Cards have been distributed to Club members.
- David will provide full details to the next Council meeting of arrangements for the Purple Day on 27th February. There will be some financial implications for the Club arising from these activities.
- An Aquabox returned by Kirkcaldy Museum & Art Gallery following an earlier event will be checked for the validity/currency of its contents and a decision taken on how best to use the resource.
Service Project Report
Vocational The Primary School Quiz has been provisionally scheduled for Wednesday 17 March, subject to confirmation from Balwearie.
Community Arrangements for the Arthritic Run appear to be working well.
International
- Approx 400 Shoe Boxes are now en route to Eastern Europe.
- An anonymous donation of £900 has been received for the Tanzania Project, together with a further £100 from a Freuchie-based group. The Braille books have now arrived in Tanzania.
- An agreed Club grant of £500 to Eden Mozambique has still to be paid.
- Youth Members discussed the number of RYLA places provided by the Club each year. During the current year, funding has been set aside for 3 RYLA students.
Membership Report
A major recruiting campaign will be launched by Rotary covering the Stirling area during January and February. It is anticipated there will be some spill-over into north Fife areas receiving ‘Real Radio’ advertising broadcasts.
Public Relations Committee Report
Committee Meeting A meeting was held on 7 December. Arrangements are now being put in place for: Thanks for Life, Museum Wine & Cheese, Charity Dinner, Beveridge Park Festival, and the Ingolstadt Visit.
Council approved a £50 donation to Kinghorn Singers following the recent Town House event.
Visits Archie Campbell reported on the recent Club visit to Kinross.
Fellowship Council members agreed to move the date of the February Council meeting to facilitate an Adam Smith College Dinner on 10 February.
Any Other Business
- President Ann has a list of Club members wishing to attend Ingolstadt Rotary Club’s 50th Charter on 8 May 2010.
- David Walker will soon be circulating a Club Bulletin.
